A healthy child is better prepared to learn, grow, and dream. Recognising the importance of early health awareness and preventive care among school-going children, Premwati Fakirchand Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust (PFMECT) organised a Free Comprehensive Health Screening Camp at Government Primary School, Shanthipura, Anekal Block, Bengaluru, on 22 August 2026.
The initiative brought together medical professionals, volunteers, educators, and community partners with a shared objective: to make basic health screening more accessible to children and identify potential health concerns at an early stage.
The camp was designed as a comprehensive screening initiative covering multiple essential health parameters. Students underwent screenings conducted by qualified medical professionals and trained volunteers, while some teachers also participated in selected screenings.
A total of 182 students were present at the school on the day of the camp, with screenings conducted across different health areas.

The numbers reflect not only the scale of the initiative but also the importance of bringing preventive healthcare closer to children in the communities where they study and grow.
One of the key objectives of the camp was to encourage early identification of health concerns.
Through eye and dental screening, haemoglobin testing, and blood group identification, the initiative provided children with an opportunity to understand their health beyond the classroom.
The identification of 34 students requiring further consultation or follow-up reinforced the value of conducting such screening programmes regularly. Early identification can help families and schools take appropriate next steps before minor concerns develop into more serious challenges.
The success of the health camp was made possible through the collective efforts of medical professionals, volunteers, the school administration, and partner organisations.
Around 15 doctors and medical professionals supported the screening activities, while 12 volunteers assisted with coordination, student movement, documentation, crowd management, and other on-ground responsibilities.
The school administration and teachers played an equally important role in ensuring that students could participate smoothly and safely throughout the day.
The initiative was supported by partners including Indian Red Cross Society, Rotary Bengaluru South Samarpane, The Oxford Dental College, and Prabha Eye Clinic, whose contributions helped make the programme more comprehensive and impactful.

Behind every screening number was a child, a conversation, and an opportunity to create greater health awareness.
For some younger students, medical procedures — particularly blood-related tests — were unfamiliar and understandably made them nervous. Volunteers and team members patiently supported the children, helped them feel comfortable, and ensured that the process remained as smooth as possible.
There were also plenty of lighter moments throughout the day. The interaction between students, teachers, volunteers, and medical professionals created an atmosphere that was not only focused on healthcare but also on trust, reassurance, and community connection.
For many children, a school may be one of the most accessible places to introduce basic health awareness and preventive screening.
PFMECT believes that healthcare initiatives should not be limited to treating illness. Prevention, awareness, early detection, and timely referral are equally important components of a healthier community.
Through initiatives like this, the Trust aims to contribute towards creating an environment where children can study without preventable health concerns becoming barriers to their education and development.
The Shanthipura Health Screening Camp is one step in PFMECT’s continuing efforts to connect education, health, and community development.
