Our Story

A journey that began with compassion and commitment to serve

The Premwati Fakirchand Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust (PFMECT) was established with a vision to honor the legacy of compassionate service and dedication to community welfare. What started as a small initiative has grown into a comprehensive organization working across multiple domains of social development.

Inspired by the principles of inclusive growth and sustainable development, our founders recognized that real change happens when we address not just immediate needs, but create long-term solutions. Over the years, we have evolved our approach, learning from communities, adapting to changing needs, and always staying true to our core mission of empowering the underprivileged.

Philosophy of Change

While our focus as a development organization has been first and foremost to work on the ground for bringing positive change in the lives of underprivileged children and families, we have been making equal efforts to sustain this change by sensitizing and engaging the privileged masses toward their social responsibility.

Not remaining restricted to the community, and with the aim of achieving sustainable development in a wider social context, PFMECT has adopted the principle of Civic-Driven Change, making civil society an active partner in all its welfare initiatives. We believe that lasting transformation comes when the entire community—privileged and underprivileged alike—works together toward common goals.

Our philosophy centers on creating self-sustaining ecosystems where beneficiaries eventually become contributors, where communities take ownership of their development, and where change is not imposed but organically grown from within.

Our Approach

The Lifecycle Approach

Comprehensive support addressing the needs of entire families

We believe that education is both the means and the end to a better life: the means because it empowers an individual to earn their livelihood, and the end because it increases awareness on a range of issues—from healthcare to appropriate social behavior to understanding one's rights—helping individuals evolve as better citizens.

But while working on the ground, we realized that child education cannot be done in isolation, without ensuring the welfare of the whole family. Health is also a part of education. A child will not go to school if they are sick. If a child's parents are afflicted with health problems, the child might drop out of school and start earning instead. Unless the mother is healthy and empowered, the child cannot be either. It is all interlinked.

Our programs evolved as a logical progression—be it livelihood, health, or women empowerment. Today, children and education remain at the center of all we do, but through the lifecycle approach, we also address the needs of children's families and communities.
